LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Wade Miley came through an important start on Tuesday with no health concerns, pitching four innings against the Braves as the lefty showed no ill effects of a recent sickness.
"I felt good. I felt like I didn't get super tired at all," said Miley, who allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk in the O's 5-4 win. "Got the pitch count back to where I wanted to be at. Everything went well."
Pitching in his first Grapefruit League game since March 14, Miley threw 64 pitches (43 strikes) and said there's nothing to suggest he won't be ready to start the season.
"I feel like I was in a pretty good spot out there," he said. "Was able to make pitches, execute pitches. And never really got super tired or winded or anything like that, so it felt good."
Miley, who was pleased he was able to get through four innings with the pitch limit he'd been given, acknowledged that this has been a little bit of a different Spring Training for him. He's gone to Minor League camp some and threw some extra side sessions to build back up his stamina after dealing with flu-like symptoms.
"I'm used to throwing 15, 16, 17 innings and those innings weren't there," he said. "A lot of stuff I had to do, side work. It's a little different when you don't have a hitter in the box. But hopefully I can stay fresh and ready for the season."
Miley is expected to start either the third or fourth game of the season, with the Orioles yet to determine the order between him and Ubaldo Jimenez.
