Sandoval to host 'Party with the Panda' benefit

SAN FRANCISCO -- Though ’s elbow injury has sidelined him for the season, his spirit of goodwill remains very active.

The Giants’ third baseman will host his first “Party With the Panda” on Thursday, Sept. 12, at Oracle Park to benefit his foundation, which is dedicated to helping needy children and their families (pablosandovalfoundation.org).

A cocktail reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. PT in The Vault at Oracle Park, followed by a dinner buffet and the evening’s festivities at 6 p.m. at the Cloud Club. A special acoustic musical performance will be held at 6:30 p.m.

“A lot of people are asking if I’ll be there -- yes, I will,” Sandoval said in a statement. “I wouldn’t miss it, and I hope others will join me and my teammates at the party with a wonderful cause -- to help low-income children in great need here in San Francisco.

“I am so excited and grateful to our sponsors, the Giants and my team for helping me get this night together. It will be so much fun.”

Many other Giants players and coaches are expected to be in attendance.

Amy Gutierrez will serve as the evening’s emcee. Franco Finn will be the auctioneer for items slated to be bid upon on that night. Also, the Giants have organized an online auction that will close Sunday at 8 p.m. PT, which features items donated by Sandoval and the BP28 Foundation, coordinated by Giants catcher . Numerous items autographed or donated by World Series heroes, Most Valuable Players and Hall of Famers are available in that auction, which benefits both Sandoval’s and Posey’s foundations. Similar items will be offered for bidding at Sandoval’s function.

One hundred percent of every donation will benefit the Pablo Sandoval Foundation. Beneficiaries from this event include the Giants Community Fund/Junior Giants, Generation Alive, the Love Harder Project and the Good Tidings Foundation.
