MILWAUKEE -- With their bullpen needing to cover at least nine innings Saturday, the Padres recalled right-hander Leonel Campos from Triple-A El Paso and optioned outfielder Alex Dickerson to the Chihuahuas.
The move gave the Padres eight relievers and four bench players.
"I think we had to get some depth in the pitching department coming out of the bullpen not knowing [how[ it is going to go and how long [Saturday's spot starter, Luis Perdomo] can go," Padres manager Andy Green said. "We just want to make sure we don't put anybody in harm's way from a pitching perspective, so we brought Campos up. There's a possibility he throws sometime today."
Campos retired one Pirates batter and allowed five earned runs in his lone outing for San Diego this season on April 21. He was optioned to El Paso the next day. The 28-year-old has a 4.16 ERA over five seasons in the Minor Leagues, including a 5.93 ERA in 10 appearances for El Paso in 2016.
Recalled from Triple-A on May 2, Dickerson hit .200 (2-for-10) in 10 games with the Padres. His lone start came in left field Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs.

• Padres infielders Alexi Amarista and Yangervis Solarte have begun their roads back from right hamstring strains by playing in extended Spring Training games in Arizona.
• Green said Amarista has played in two games. Amarista played second base and shortstop for a combined five innings on Thursday and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
• Green expects to have a conversation with general manager A.J. Preller in the near future to determine if Amarista and Solarte will need to play a few games with Advanced Class A Lake Elsinore before returning to the Padres.
"If we feel like they do, then maybe it is a couple of days before they are back with us," Green said. "Where we are in the infield right now, we're thin, so we're hungry to get those guys back."
