Although the Padres rank 13th among National League teams in team on-base percentage and next-to-last in team batting average, they are tied for second in double plays grounded into.

The bottom line is that although the Padres have had fewer baserunners than most National League teams, they have lost more runners to double plays than all but one team in the National League. That doesn’t include runners thrown out on the bases.

Only three teams in the American League have lost more runners to double plays than the Padres.

-- RHP Trey Wingenter’s stock is rising. He reached two career-highs Sunday with two innings and four strikeouts. Since returning from the injured list on May 19, Wingenter has allowed two runs on two hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. Since April 16, Wingenter has allowed three runs on four hits and seven walks with 23 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings over 14 appearances for a 1.88 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP.

-- RHP Luis Perdomo’s stock also rose last weekend. He pitched a perfect inning of relief Saturday night with a strikeout and then started Sunday’s bullpen game, going 3 1/3 innings. He allowed one unearned run over the 4 1/3 total innings on two hits and one strikeout. With his sinker working, Perdomo threw a total of 42 pitches in the two games.

-- RHP Craig Stammen was struggling before giving up four straight home runs on Sunday. After making six straight scoreless appearances coming out of a a previous slump, Stammen has allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 14 hits and a walk with three strikeouts over just 6 2/3 innings in his six most recent outings -- pushing his season ERA up to 4.28 from 2.67.

-- RHP Dinelson Lamet, who the Padres are hoping to have back in the starting rotation mix sometime after the All-Star break, continued his rehab from last year’s “Tommy John” elbow reconstruction surgery with four scoreless innings for Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore Monday night. Lamet allowed three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in his third rehab outing with the Storm.
