Padres Social Hour: Captain Florent Groberg

April 20th, 2016

It's not often that Bill Center -- who's covered San Diego sports for 49 years -- is rendered speechless. But that's exactly what happened when US Army (ret.) Captain Florent Groberg stopped by Padres Social Hour.
Groberg, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, was at Petco Park to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Military Opening Day. Groberg received the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama in November, recognizing his valor in combat during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2012, for using his own body to push a suicide bomber away from the traveling brigade he was tasked with protecting. Groberg is one of only 76 living service members to have received the distinction. Watch the video above to hear Groberg tell his entire amazing story, plus why -- even after all he's been through -- he's still nervous to throw out a first pitch.
