could make his return to the Majors in the near future.

Sandoval (left biceps discomfort) made a rehab start for Double-A Portland on Saturday, tossing five scoreless innings and throwing 68 pitches (43 strikes). The left-hander struck out seven batters, walked one and only allowed one hit.

The 29-year-old hasn’t pitched in the Majors since June 2024. Sandoval underwent Tommy John surgery that summer with the Angels and had a lengthy recovery, along with other injury complications during that time. He elected free agency during that offseason and joined the Red Sox in December. His recent bout with biceps discomfort led to complications in 2025 and a delayed start to his 2026 season.

Sandoval had one other Double-A outing this season on June 17, when he allowed one run over three innings, striking out four and walking one. In six starts with Triple-A Worcester this year, he's 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 15 2/3 innings while striking out 11 and walking 11.
