The Toronto Blue Jays claimed right-hander Paul Sewald off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Sewald, 36, has appeared in 45 contests for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 6.23 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP, a .228 opponent average, a 5.5% walk rate, and a 27.0% strikeout rate, while ranking T-4th in the NL in saves (24). The right-hander from Las Vegas, Nev., was selected by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Diego, making his MLB debut with the club in 2017. Over 10 MLB seasons, Sewald has suited up for the Mets, Mariners, Diamondbacks, Guardians, and Tigers, appearing in 426 games, posting a 4.30 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP, a .220 opponent average, a 7.8% walk rate, a 28.4% strikeout rate, and 110 saves.
Additionally, right-hander Jake Bloss has been recalled to the Major League roster and placed on the 60-day injured list.
