PHOENIX -- In an attempt to get Rubby De La Rosa to pitch better, D-backs manager Chip Hale is hoping the right-hander takes the advice of Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez.
De La Rosa, who struggled during Spring Training, allowed seven runs (six earned) in just 3 1/3 innings in his first regular season start Thursday night.
"I think Ruby thinks too much and he overuses his pitches," Martinez tweeted during the game. "He doesn't know how great of a stuff he has, so he still doesn't trust it."

That's the message the D-backs' coaching staff has tried to get through to De La Rosa over the past year: Trust your stuff.
"I think it was spot on," Hale said of Martinez's comments. "Hopefully Pedro will talk to him. I know that they're friendly. I think everything that I read -- somebody showed me those tweets [since] I don't have Twitter -- was spot on. Don't even shake, let the catcher put something down and let it go, because your stuff is good enough to beat the hitter."
