Pence, Panik delayed in rehab by rainout

BOSTON -- The rainout that the Giants' Sacramento affiliate endured Monday at New Orleans disrupted the recovery schedules for right fielder and second baseman , who have begun their injury rehabilitation stints with the Triple-A outpost.
"I guess you could say it's a minor setback," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday.
Bochy said the Giants want Panik (concussion) to play at least three games in the Minors, with ascending workloads of five, seven and nine innings, before he'll be considered for reinstatement from the disabled list.
Panik went 0-for-2 in five innings before walking in the sixth and being replaced by a pinch-runner in the first game of Sacramento's doubleheader Tuesday at New Orleans. Bochy indicated Panik would have to progress quickly to rejoin the Giants in time for this weekend's series against the Yankees.
Bochy said Pence (right hamstring), who was removed from Sacramento's game Saturday after three innings, did pregame activity Tuesday and felt fine, but the Giants kept him out another day as a precaution.
