The top 5 catches of PCA's Gold Glove year

December 17th, 2025

makes the impossible look easy in center field, so it's no wonder he took home his first Gold Glove Award last month.

He made too many highlight-reel plays to count this season. But we're going to try our best to pick out his best of the best.

We looked at PCA's most difficult plays by catch probability for some inspiration. And there was plenty of inspiration. Crow-Armstrong made 19 "five-star" catches alone in 2025 -- that's a catch probability of 25% or lower. He had 10 more of those than any other outfielder.

Here are five of PCA's best catches of his Gold Glove-winning 2025 season.

1) July 4 vs. Cardinals
Catch probability: 5%

If Crow-Armstrong dives for a ball, you know he really had to dive for that ball. He gets such great jumps, and has such great speed, that he often stays on his feet to make catches that other outfielders would never even get to at all.

But on this play? He went full-extension dive to steal a hit from Masyn Winn on a sinking line drive just before it hit the ground at Wrigley Field. PCA had to cover 66 feet in just 3.6 seconds to get there. His sunglasses even popped off his hat as he hit the ground, just to give the play an extra flourish.

2) June 4 vs. Nationals
Catch probability: 5%

How did PCA track this ball down? This was an over-the-shoulder catch at full sprint straight into the left-center-field wall in Washington. The catch probability -- based on the distance the outfielder needs to cover, and how much time he has to make the play -- was as difficult as they come.

Alex Call must have thought he had a guaranteed extra-base hit. But Crow-Armstrong ate up the 103 feet he needed to cover in just 5.3 seconds, reaching a top sprint speed of 29.7 feet per second on his long run to the fence (30 ft/sec is true elite speed).

3) June 17 vs. Brewers
Catch probability: 5%

Yes, Crow-Armstrong made not one, not two, but three plays this season with a 5% catch probability. Most outfielders will go whole seasons without even making one.

This one was an acrobatic shoestring catch-turned-barrel roll onto the outfield grass at Wrigley. PCA ranged into the left-center-field gap to pick off Brice Turang's line drive tailing away from him, covering 71 feet in 3.8 seconds thanks to a typically elite jump.

4) NL Wild Card Series Game 3 vs. Padres
Catch probability: 10%

This one wasn't just an elite catch, it was on the postseason stage -- in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Wild Card Series at Wrigley. PCA's catch to rob Manny Machado in the first inning set the tone for the Cubs in their 3-1 win.

Crow-Armstrong had just 3.1 seconds to race in and cover the 46 feet he needed to make the catch in shallow right-center field. He got there, and made a nifty sliding catch to finish off the play.

5) April 4 vs. Padres
Catch probability: 20%

The ivy on the outfield wall was still brown during this cold April game at Wrigley. And that's exactly where this play took Crow-Armstrong after a long drive off the bat of Xander Bogaerts.

PCA ranged 100 feet back to the left-center-field fence in 5.5 seconds, then reached out and plucked the ball out of the air just before it entered the ivy before bumping off the ivy himself. Another play that he tracked down seemingly with ease, but even big league outfielders would usually have trouble tracking down at all.

These five catches are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the great plays PCA made in 2025. And that just shows you there might be a lot more Gold Gloves coming.
