PHILADELPHIA -- Brandon Marsh almost had it.
Andrew Painter almost got out of it.
But nothing good is happening to the Phillies these days. Eventually, it must turn. But Michael Harris II’s two-out fly ball in the sixth inning on Friday night at Truist Park landed just over Marsh’s outstretched glove, onto the warning track in left-center field and hit the wall to score two runs, including the go-ahead run.
The streak continues. The Phillies lost their 10th consecutive game with a 5-3 loss to the Braves. It is the franchise’s longest losing streak since an 11-game losing streak from Sept 4-14, 1999.
It is only their fifth losing streak of 10 or more games since 1972.
The Phillies carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Trea Turner in the third inning and a solo homer from Bryce Harper in the fifth inning.
Painter started the sixth inning having retired nine of 12 following a two-run homer to Ronald Acuna Jr. in the third. Justin Crawford made a nice diving catch on an Austin Riley line drive for the first out.
Dominic Smith reached on infield single. Mauricio Dubón walked on five pitches.
Mike Yastrzemski flied out to left for the second out.
Painter was one out from being the first Phillies pitcher to complete six innings in a game since April 18, when Cristopher Sánchez tossed six. He even had a shot to be the first Phillies pitcher to record an out in the seventh inning since April 4 when Jesus Luzardo threw 6 2/3 innings.
But Painter fell behind Harris 2-0, then threw a fastball down.
Harris got it.
