The Phillies have made their share of errors and baserunning blunders in recent days, but Friday night they were held to one or zero runs for the fourth time since the break and an MLB-high-tying 24th time this season.
Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler allowed three hits and struck out 12 batters in 7 1/3 scoreless innings on Friday.
The Phillies threatened for the first time in the eighth inning, when Schlittler allowed a one-hit out single to J.T. Realmuto, and he hit Gabriel Rincones Jr. with a pitch. Yankees reliever Brent Headrick allowed a single to pinch-hitter Edmundo Sosa to load the bases, but he got Trea Turner to line out and Kyle Schwarber to ground out to end the threat.
Expect the Phillies to be aggressive before the Trade Deadline. They have invested too much money and have too good of a team to not do what they can to improve.
