Phillies Minor League Review: April 30-May 6

Players of the Week

Player - OF Dylan Cozens, Lehigh Valley… Cozens, 23, collected one double, four home runs, six RBI and posted a 1.245 OPS in seven games. He slugged three home runs on May 2 vs Syracuse, his second multi-homer game of the season. The Arizona-native leads the International League with seven home runs. Cozens was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2012 draft.

Pitcher - LHP Jakob Hernandez, Clearwater The 21-year-old struck out nine of the 15 batters he faced over two scoreless relief appearances (4.1 innings) in which he earned a win in both games. He has 24 strikeouts to five walks in 15.2 innings of relief (nine games) this season. Hernandez was selected by the Phillies in the 21st round of the June 2017 draft.

 

Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division… 14-14, 4th place The IronPigs went 3-4 last week, winning three straight games from May 2-4. Offensively, they are tied for first in the league with 26 home runs.

 

Top hitting performers - OF Dylan Cozens, the Phillies Minor League Player of the Week, led the club with four home runs last week, batting .370 (10-27) with six RBI and five runs scored in seven games… 1B Joey Meneses, who was selected as the International League Batter of the Week, went 13-for-25 (.520) with five doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, six runs scored and a 1.531 OPS in seven contests… 3B Mitch Walding hit .278 (5-18) with two extra-base hits, three RBI, five runs scored and a team-best eight walks over seven games. He leads the league in runs scored (22) and is tied for first in walks (20).

 

Top pitching performers - RHP Enyel De Los Santos , who was recently named Phillies Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for April, earned a win in his lone start, striking out eight over 6.0 scoreless innings. His 1.07 ERA this season ranks second among qualifying pitchers in the International League… LHP Tom Windle surrendered just one run, hit and walk over 5.0 innings of relief (three games), while recording six strikeouts… LHP Brandon Leibrandt did not allow a run over 4.0 innings in his only start of the week. He has not allowed a run in 18.0 innings this season (seven games/two starts).

 

Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division… 10-16, 5th place Reading dropped four of its six games. The Fightin Phils' offense leads the league with a .413 slugging percentage.

 

Top hitting performers SS Malquin Canelo slashed .368/.429/.684 (7-19) with two home runs, two RBI, three runs scored and one stolen base over five games… INF Zach Green went 6-for-11 (.545) with one double, two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored in three contests… OF Jan Hernandez batted .364 (4-11) with two extra-base hits, two RBI and scored three times over four games. His .344 batting average is fifth-best in the Eastern League this season… OF Cornelius Randolph hit .353 (6-17) in five games.

 

Top pitching performers - RHP Franklyn Kilome surrendered one run on one hit over 4.0 innings with six strikeouts in his lone start… RHP Edgar Garcia went 1-0 in two scoreless relief appearances (4.0 IP), while allowing just one hit with five strikeouts. He owns a 0.85 WHIP and a 0.51 ERA (1 ER, 17.2 IP) in 10 relief outings this season.

 

Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division… 12-18, 4th place… The Threshers won two out of three games against Lakeland before dropping two of three to Dunedin to end the week. Two of their three losses were by one run.

 

Top hitting performers - 1B Darick Hall - the Florida State League Player of the Week - batted .458 (11-24) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a team-best 1.292 OPS in six games. He is tied for third in all of Minor League Baseball with 10 homers this season and was recently named Phillies Minor League Hitter of the Month for April… OF Austin Listi slashed .400/.500/.600 (8-20) with two extra-base hits, three RBI, eight runs scored and three walks over six games. His .372 batting average ranks second in the Florida State League… C Henri Lartigue went 5-for-12 (.417) in three games.

 

Top pitching performers - LHP Jakob Hernandez, who was selected as the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week, collected nine strikeouts over 4.1 scoreless innings of relief (two games), allowing three hits and no walks, while earning wins in both outings… RHP Mauricio Llovera notched a quality start in his lone outing of the week, scattering six hits and one run over 6.0 innings, while striking out nine… RHP Adonis Medina did not allow an earned run and recorded six strikeouts to one walk in his only start (6.0 IP).

 

Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division… 15-15, 5th place Lakewood went 1-5 last week. All five losses were by three runs or fewer.

 

Top hitting performers -  INF Jake Scheiner led the club in a number of offensive categories, collecting 19 total bases, batting .385 (10-26) with five extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored and a 1.159 OPS in six games… OF Kevin Markham posted a .375 on-base percentage with three extra-base hits and two stolen bases over six games… INF Dalton Guthrie doubled, homered and drove in three runs in four contests.

 

Top pitching performers - LHP Will Stewart earned a win in his only start, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts over a season-high 7.0 innings. He has posted a 1.86 ERA (6 ER, 29.0 IP) in five starts this season… LHP Damon Jones worked 6.0 scoreless innings in his lone start, yielding three hits and recording four strikeouts… RHP Connor Brogdon made one start in which he allowed one run over 5.0 innings. He did not surrender a walk and fanned five batters.

Philadelphia Phillies
