Phillies Minor League review: Aug. 1-7

Players of the Week
Player OF Dylan Cozens, Reading… The 22-year-old Cozens batted .367 (11-30) with a double, two triples, five home runs, 14 RBI, three walks, a stolen base and a 1.033 slugging percentage in seven games. In two games from August 3-4, he combined to go 7-for-9 with two triples, five home runs, 12 RBI, a stolen base and seven runs scored. His three home runs and seven RBI on August 3 were both career highs, and his four hits tied a career best. Cozens leads all of professional baseball with 103 RBI and ranks second with 32 home runs. He leads the Eastern League in slugging (.611), extra-base hits (67), total bases (253) and runs scored (90). Cozens, who was also named Eastern League Player of the Week, was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2012 draft.
Pitcher - LHP Adam Morgan, Lehigh Valley… Morgan, 26, was named both Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week and International League Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA (2 ER, 14.2 IP), 0.55 WHIP (2 BB, 6 H) and 17 strikeouts in his two outings. He tossed 6.0 shutout innings on August 1, and then struck out 11 batters in a career-high 8.2 innings on August 6. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight outings and is averaging just over one strikeout per inning pitched (52 SO, 50.1 IP). Morgan was selected by the Phillies in the third round of the June 2011 draft.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…70-45, 2nd place… The IronPigs took four of their seven games, bookending their week with two wins to start and two to finish. They allowed only five total runs in those four wins while scoring 26.
Top hitting performers - 1B/OF Darin Ruf went 7-for-23 (.304) with a double, home run, two RBI, five walks and a .429 on-base percentage… OF Nick Williams homered twice, drove in three runs and scored a team-high five… OF Cam Perkins batted .294 (5-17) with a triple, two RBI, two walks and two runs scored.
Top pitching performers - LHP Adam Morgan pitched in two games, combining to go 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA (2 ER, 14.2 IP) and 17 strikeouts. He was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week and International League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Ben Lively also went 2-0, holding Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scoreless over 8.0 innings on August 2 and tossing 6.1 innings of one-run ball in his next start.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division …76-38, 1st place… Reading went 5-2 in their seven games, winning four straight in the middle of the week. Three times they scored 12 runs or more, and they also tossed two shutouts as they maintain a four-game lead in the division.

He also earned Eastern League Player of the Week honors… OF Andrew Pullin was 11-for-31 (.355) with three doubles, three home runs, seven RBI, a walk and six runs scored… 1B Rhys Hoskins clubbed four home runs and drove in six runs. He also doubled and walked nine times, posting a .516 on-base percentage to go along with a .300 average (6-20) for the week… OF Roman Quinn played in four games in his return to Reading, batting .429 (6-14) with an RBI, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored.
Top pitching performers - RHP Ricardo Pinto allowed only four hits and three walks in 14.0 innings over two starts (0.50 WHIP). He surrendered three runs (two earned) and struck out 11 batters… RHP Nick Pivetta struck out 11 batters in 12.2 innings over two starts, posting a 1.42 ERA (2 ER)… RHP Tom Eshelman tossed 6.0 scoreless frames with just three hits and no walks allowed on August 3 against Bowie… LHP Hoby Milner struck out six in 3.1 scoreless innings of relief and also picked up his fifth save of the season.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…27-15, 2ndplace, 66-44 overall… The Threshers lost their first two games of the week but then won their final three. Clearwater's .643 winning percentage in the second half is second-best in the FSL, trailing only Dunedin (.651).
Top hitting performers -  SS Malquin Canelo batted .421 (8-19) with a double, two RBI and a walk… CF Carlos Tocci collected seven hits in 18 at-bats (.389), doubled twice, drove in five runs and walked twice in five games… 2B Josh Tobias batted .316 (6-19) with a double, home run, three RBI and three walks. He is batting .368 with a .939 OPS in his first 10 games with Clearwater.
Top pitching performers -  RHP Shane Watson made one start, surrendering two runs while striking out eight batters in a career-high 8.1 innings… RHP Drew Anderson did not allow a run and scattered five hits over 6.0 shutout innings in his lone start of the week.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…23-19, 4th place, 52-59 overall… Lakewood dropped two of their three games with Greensboro and then split a four-game set with Hagerstown. Despite being in fourth place, the BlueClaws are only 1.5 games out of first in a tightly-packed division.
Top hitting performers - OF Jose Pujols doubled twice, homered, drove in six runs and walked once while batting .346 (9-26) in seven games… C Wilson Garcia extended his hitting streak to seven games, batting .333 (8-24) with a double and two RBI… OF Mark Laird went 7-for-16 (.438) with two RBI, two walks and a pair of multi-hit games in his first action with Lakewood.
Top pitching performers - RHP Alberto Tirado struck out 17 batters in 10.0 innings over two starts, allowing three earned runs (2.70 ERA) and holding opponents to seven total hits… LHP Tyler Gilbert pitched 7.1 innings of one-run ball on August 6, striking out eight and walking one… RHP Harold Arauz allowed only two hits over 5.0 scoreless innings in his only start of the week.
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…28-21, 2nd place… The Crosscutters finished off a series win over Mahoning Valley, but then lost consecutive series against Staten Island and West Virginia as they finished the week 2-5. They scored just 19 runs in those seven games.
Top hitting performers - SS Chandler Hall doubled, homered, drove in two runs and walked once in six games played… OF Luke Maglich collected six hits in 16 at-bats (.375), doubled twice, knocked in a run and drew two walks.
Top pitching performers -  RHP Felix Paulino struck out six batters in 6.0 innings, allowed only four hits and did not surrender a run in his one start last week… LHP JoJo Romero threw 6.0 scoreless frames with five hits and no walks. He has not allowed a run in his last 16.0 innings pitched… LHP Cole Irvin earned his third straight win on August 5, holding Staten Island to a run on five hits in 6.0 innings of work.
GCL Phillies - Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…26-11, 2nd place… The Phillies won six of their seven games, pulling within three-games of the GCL-best Blue Jays (29-8). The Phillies currently lead the GCL in batting (.274) and on-base percentage (.353).
Top hitting performers - CF Mickey Moniak extended his hitting streak to nine games, batting .350 (7-20) with three doubles, a triple, four RBI, three stolen bases and a 1.009 OPS. Moniak is fourth in the league in batting (.327) and tied for third in RBI (24)… 2B Daniel Brito tripled, drove in six runs, walked twice and scored three times while batting .400 (8-20)… C Nerluis Martinez batted .385 (5-13) with an RBI and a run in four games.
Top pitching performers LHP Nick Fanti went 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA (1 ER, 10.0 IP), 11 strikeouts and a 0.80 WHIP (3 BB, 5 H) in his two starts. He has a 1.43 ERA through his first eight games (six starts)… RHP Mauricio Llovera made one start, holding the GCL Yankees to one run in 5.0 innings while striking out a season-high eight batters.
