Phillies Minor League review for July 10-16

Players of the Week
Player - OF Cornelius Randolph, Clearwater… Randolph, 20, batted .421 (8-19) with a double, home run, three RBI, four walks and a 1.153 OPS in five games. He tied a professional-high with four hits on July 15, two days after posting his third three-hit game of the season. Randolph is batting .390 (23-59) since June 27, which is the highest average in the Florida State League in that time frame. He was selected by the Phillies in the first round of the June 2015 draft.
Co-Pitcher - RHP Mauricio Llovera, Lakewood… The 21-year-old Llovera tied a professional-high with nine strikeouts in 5.0 scoreless innings in his only start of the week, surrendering only three hits and a walk in the outing. He has posted a 1.29 ERA as a starter this season (2 ER, 14.0 IP) and a 1.90 ERA overall (11 ER, 52.0 IP), which ranks fourth among Phillies minor leaguers with at least 50.0 innings pitched. Llovera was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on December 14, 2014.
Co-Pitcher - RHP Adonis Medina, Lakewood… Medina, 20, made one start for Lakewood, allowing only three baserunners (3 hits) while striking out seven over 6.0 shutout innings on July 16. He ranks second among South Atlantic League starters in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (10.73), racking up 97 strikeouts this season, which ranks third in the league. Medina, who has allowed one run or fewer in seven of his 15 starts, was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on May 29, 2014.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…57-37, 2nd place… The IronPigs played four games due to the triple-A All-Star break, splitting a four-game set with Rochester. RHP (2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 H) and C (0-2) both appeared in the All-Star game, while 1B Rhys Hoskins (1-2) and 2B Scott Kingery (0-1) appeared for the U.S. Team in the All-Star Futures Game.
Top hitting performers - SS J.P. Crawford batted .333 (5-15) with a double, triple, home run, two RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Crawford has five homers in his last 12 games… 1B Rhys Hoskins was 1-for-2 in the All-Star Futures Game, and then returned to knock his league-leading 44th extra-base hit of the season and drive in two runs in the first series after the break.
Top pitching performers - RHP struck out eight batters in 6.0 scoreless innings during his one start, allowing only four hits… LHP Brandon Leibrandt tossed 5.0 innings and allowed one run on just two hits. He has a 2.05 ERA (5 ER, 22.0 IP) since joining Lehigh Valley.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…51-40, 3rd place… Reading was swept in four games against Binghamton following three days off for the Eastern League All-Star break. RHP (1.0 IP) earned the win while OF Carlos Tocci (2-4, R), 3B Mitch Walding (0-2), OF Jiandido Tromp (0-3) and RHP Yacksel Rios (0.2 IP), who is now on Lehigh Valley's roster, all played in the game representing Reading.
Top hitting performers - OF Jiandido Tromp homered, drove in four runs and batted .333 (5-15) in four games… 3B Mitch Walding clouted his league-leading 21st homer of the season, drove in two runs and walked four times.
Top pitching performers - RHP worked 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, walking none while striking out three… RHP Tommy Bergjans surrendered four runs (1 ER) in 6.0 innings in his lone start of the week.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…12-10, 3rd place, 50-42 overall… The Threshers played six games last week, going 4-2 and ending the week with a 13-4 victory over Daytona. Clearwater has a 2.94 team ERA this season.
Top hitting performers - OF Cornelius Randolph was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .421 (8-19) with a double, home run, three RBI and four walks… 3B Jan Hernandez had a team-high five extra-base hits (2 2B, 3B, 2 HR), drove in five runs and batted .333 (8-24).
Top pitching performers -LHP Ranger Suarez recorded seven strikeouts in 4.0 scoreless innings in his first start with Clearwater. He has allowed only 15 earned runs in 89.0 innings overall this season (1.52 ERA)… RHP Jose Taveras did not walk a batter and surrendered two runs in 7.0 innings on July 16, striking out six.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…10-13, 5th place, 50-43 overall… The BlueClaws finished the week with a 2-3 record, with two of their losses coming by only one run. Lakewood also logged its league-leading 15th shutout of the season on July 14, and their staff owns the second-best ERA (3.19) in the league.
Top hitting performers - C Henri Lartigue batted .429 (6-14) with a double, home run, three RBI and four runs scored in five games. He posted a 1.214 OPS... SS Arquimedes Gamboa went 6-for-19 (.316) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in five games... 3B Luke Williams hit .357 (5-14) in four games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Mauricio Llovera scattered three hits and one walk over 5.0 scoreless innings, while recording nine strikeouts in his lone start on July 14. He was named Co-Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Adonis Medina, the Phillies other Co-Minor League Pitcher of the Week, struck out seven batters in 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits in his start on July 16… RHP Sixto Sanchez earned the win on July 12, surrendering one run on three hits over 6.0 innings with one walk and four strikeouts. 
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…14-10, 1st place… Williamsport went 3-1, completing a three-game series sweep against Lowell to end the week. The Crosscutters have the highest slugging percentage (.409) in the league this season.
Top hitting performers - INF Jake Scheiner slashed .313/.389/.688 with four extra-base hits (3 2B, HR). He led the club with five runs scored last week… 3B Cole Stobbe batted .300 (3-10) with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in three games. His homer, a walk-off shot, was his league-leading sixth of the season.
Top pitching performers - LHP Kyle Young registered his third consecutive scoreless start on July 14, allowing three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. He improved to 4-0 with a 1.16 ERA (3 ER, 23.1 IP) and 30 strikeouts in five starts this season, and has an active 15.0-inning scoreless streak… RHP Julian Garcia did not allow a run over 3.0 innings, while surrendering two hits, two walks and striking out six in a rain-shortened start (game was suspended on July 12 and completed the following day). Garcia leads all qualifying starters in the league with 12.86 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched this season… RHP Connor Seabold struck out four and allowed just one baserunner in a 2.0-inning appearance.
Gulf Coast League Phillies - Gulf Coast League Northwest Division…11-6, 2nd place… The GCL Phillies went 4-2, including three straight victories in the middle of the week. They improved to 8-2 over their last 10 games. The GCL Phillies have hit 13 home runs this season, which is tied for the most among all clubs in the league.
Top hitting performers - 1B Quincy Nieporte batted .421 (8-19) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored in five games. He posted a team-best 1.500 OPS last week… SS Jonathan Guzman went 7-for-18 (.389) with four extra-base hits (2 2B, 2 3B), four RBI and two runs scored in four games… OF Ben Pelletier slugged a double, two home runs and drove in five runs, while hitting .294 (5-17) with five runs scored in four games.  
Top pitching performers -LHP Jhordany Mezquita recorded six strikeouts and allowed an unearned run on one hit with one walk over 3.0 innings in his start on July 13… LHP Ethan Lindow made his professional debut on July 14, surrendering two hits with four strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings… RHP Sandro Rosario went 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA (2 ER, 9.2 IP) and eight strikeouts in two relief appearances.
