Phillies Minor League review for May 29-June 4

Players of the Week
Player - 1B Darick Hall, Lakewood… The 21-year-old Hall batted .346 (9-26) with four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, four walks, seven runs and 1.182 OPS in seven games last week. He hit safely in all seven games and has recorded a hit in 19 of his last 21 contests. Hall, who led the BlueClaws with 10 RBI during the week, tied a career high with four RBI on June 4. He ranks sixth in the South Atlantic League with 35 RBI this season. Hall was selected by the Phillies in the 14th round of the June 2016 draft.
Pitcher - LHP JoJo Romero, Lakewood… Romero, 20, made two starts for Lakewood, striking out eight batters and allowing two runs in 5.1 innings on May 29, and followed with a scoreless 7.0-inning effort on June 4 in which he allowed just five hits, walked none and struck out seven. He has struck out 60 batters and allowed just one home run in 57.1 innings this season, and his 2.04 ERA (13 ER) ranks fifth in the South Atlantic League. He was selected by the Phillies in the fourth round of the June 2016 draft.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…37-19, 1st place… The IronPigs won two of their first three games last week, but then dropped three of the final four to finish the week 3-4. Prior to this week, they had not lost a series since their final series of April, winning eight straight series in between. They went 24-5 in the month of May.
Top hitting performers - OF batted .300 (6-20) with a double, a pair of triples, five RBI and two walks in seven games… OF Cameron Perkins was 8-for-26 (.308) with two doubles, a home run, a team-high six walks and a .455 on-base percentage. He collected his third three-hit game of the season on May 30.
Top pitching performers - RHP threw a complete game shutout in his start on May 31, walking one while striking out seven. He has a 1.40 ERA (6 ER, 38.2 IP) in his first five career triple-A starts and has tossed 8.0 innings or more in three of them… RHP started two games, earning wins in both while combining for 11.0 innings pitched with two runs (1 ER) allowed … RHP Jesen Therrien threw 2.0 innings with just an unearned run allowed and two strikeouts in his first triple-A game.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…29-24, 3rd place… After winning the finale in their series against New Hampshire, Reading took three of four games from Portland and two of three from Akron to finish the week 6-2. The Fightins led the Eastern League in home runs for the second straight month, clubbing 35 round-trippers in May.
Top hitting performers - 3B Mitch Walding went deep five times, driving in nine runs while slugging 1.037. He also hit two doubles, a triple and scored eight runs in seven games… 2B Scott Kingery batted .355 (11-31) with three doubles, two home runs, three RBI, four walks and a stolen base. He continues to lead all of Minor League Baseball with 17 home runs this season… INF Angelo Mora batted .440 (11-25), recording three hits in three of his final four games of the week. He had two doubles, two home runs and a team-high 10 RBI.
Top pitching performers - In his two starts, RHP struck out 13 batters in 13.0 innings, allowing just three total runs (2 ER) while walking two batters. He was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season (other: 5/8-14)… LHP Brandon Leibrandt allowed three runs in 12.1 innings while striking out nine batters over two starts… In his four games in relief, RHP threw 6.0 scoreless innings with two hits, no walks and nine strikeouts, earning saves in each of his two opportunities.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…32-25, 1st place… The Threshers played only five games last week due to a scheduled off day and a postponement, but they went 4-1, finishing the week with a four-game winning streak. Clearwater leads the Florida State League with 48 home runs this season and is second with a 3.15 team ERA.
Top hitting performers - OF Cornelius Randolph batted an even .500 (9-18) with a double, RBI, walk and three runs scored… C Deivi Grullon had six hits in 17 at-bats (.353) over four games. He hit three doubles, drove in two runs and scored two more.
Top pitching performers -RHP Jacob Waguespack struck out four batters and allowed just one run in 4.0 innings in his lone start last week. After 14 games in relief to begin the season, he has allowed just two runs in 9.0 innings in his two starts… RHP Edgar Garcia tossed 5.0 innings on June 2, surrendering a run on just two hits while striking out five batters… LHP Jeff Singer lowered his season ERA to 1.57 (5 ER, 28.2 IP) after 3.0 scoreless innings in relief over two appearances.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…32-25, 2nd place… Lakewood went 2-1 in a three-game set with Greensboro, but then lost three of four games against Asheville to start June. They earned their league-leading ninth shutout win with an 8-0 victory in their last game of the week.

He batted .346 (9-26) with a 1.182 OPS and was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week… OF David Martinelli was 6-for-16 (.375) with a pair of home runs and five RBI… C Henri Lartigue hit four doubles, homered twice, drove in seven runs and scored four more while batting .308 (8-26).
Top pitching performers - LHP JoJo Romero struck out eight batters in 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on May 29, then tossed 7.0 shutout innings with no walks and seven strikeouts in his start on June 4. He was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Will Hibbs extended his scoreless innings streak to 30.0 consecutive innings to begin the season after allowing just one hit and striking out three batters in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen. He has allowed only eight hits all season… LHP Ranger Suarez made one start, allowing one run on two hits in 6.0 innings of work.
