Phillies Minor League Review: July 23-29

Players of the Week
Player - OF , Lehigh Valley … The 24-year-old posted a .476/.577/1.238 slash line, going 10-for-21 with four doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI, six runs scored and five walks over six games. He collected multiple RBI in four of those six contests and was also named International League Batter of the Week. Cozens has eight doubles, eight home runs, 22 RBI and a 1.198 OPS in 18 games this month. The Arizona native was selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2012 draft.
Pitcher - RHP Ben Brown, GCL Phillies West … Brown, 18, struck out 16 of the 21 batters he faced on July 24 at the GCL Tigers East. He tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, while allowing just two hits and one walk in that start. It was his first professional double-digit strikeout game. A native of New York, he was selected by the Phillies in the 33rd round of the June 2017 draft.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division… 65-41, 1st place… Lehigh Valley went 4-2 last week, taking two of three against Gwinnett and doing the same vs Columbus. Offensively, the IronPigs lead the league in home runs (115) this season.
Top hitting performers - OF Dylan Cozens, the Phillies Minor League Player of the Week, batted .476 (10-21) with eight extra-base hits, 13 RBI, six runs scored, five walks and a 1.815 OPS in six games. He logged his fifth multi-homer game of the season on July 28 vs Columbus (Game 2 of doubleheader)… SS went 8-for-19 (.421) with a double and three RBI in five contests. He has hit safely in 18 consecutive games (.394, 28-71) since July 6… 3B posted a .467/.556/1.200 slash line, going 7-for-15 with two doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and six runs scored over four games.
Top pitching performers - RHP posted a quality start in his only outing, allowing two runs over 6.0 innings with five strikeouts… RHP made three scoreless relief appearances (3.0 IP), while striking out four batters. He converted his only save opportunity and earned a win. Of his 14 relief appearances with Lehigh Valley this season, 13 have been scoreless.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division… 49-57, T-4th place… The Fightin Phils won three of their seven games. All four of their losses were by three runs or fewer. Offensively, they lead the Eastern League in home runs (112) in 2018. No other team in the league has 100 homers entering play today.
Top hitting performers - OF Cornelius Randolph batted .409 (9-22) and collected two doubles, one home run, two RBI, three walks, four runs scored and one stolen base over seven games. He is batting .369 (31-84) with a .971 OPS in 25 games this month… OF Adam Haseley hit .370 (10-27) in seven contests. He tied his professional best with four hits on July 23 vs New Hampshire… C Deivi Grullon homered, drove in three runs and batted .316 (6-19) in five games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Connor Seabold recorded nine strikeouts over 7.0 innings, while allowing just one run in his lone start… RHP Tyler Viza went 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA (3 ER, 11.2 IP) and struck out nine batters over two starts… RHP Ranfi Casimiro allowed two unearned runs and did not walk a batter over 6.0 innings in his only start.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division… 21-14, 2nd place, 53-50 overall… Clearwater took two of three games at St. Lucie to begin the week before winning two of three against Lakeland.
Top hitting performers - OF Jose Pujols, the Florida State League Player of the Week, batted .417 (10-24) with two doubles, one triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored in six games. He has slugged five home runs and knocked in 15 runs over his last eight games. Pujols has also collected at least one RBI in five straight games… C Edgar Cabral doubled, tripled, drove in five runs and scored four times, while going 8-for-19 (.421) over five contests… OF Kevin Markham hit .636 (7-11) with two doubles and a triple in three games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Alejandro Requena made one start in which he did not allow a run over 6.0 innings, while surrendering just two hits… LHP McKenzie Mills earned a win in his only start, yielding just one run and a walk in 6.0 innings… RHP Addison Russ made three scoreless relief appearances (3.0 IP) and converted all three of his save opportunities. He is 18-for-18 in save opportunities this season (13 with Lakewood and 5 with Clearwater).
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division… 25-12, 1st place, 66-40 overall… The BlueClaws went 6-1 last week, winning three of four against Greensboro and sweeping Hagerstown in a three-game set. They won consecutive games with walk-off hits on July 28 (Jose Antequera - single) and July 29 (Simon Muzziotti - home run). Additionally, Lakewood's pitching staff is the only one in the league with a sub-3.00 ERA (2.82) this season.
Top hitting performers - INF/OF Jake Scheiner collected multiple hits in four of his six games, batting .435 (10-23) with a double, two triples, seven RBI, five runs scored and a 1.152 OPS… SS Nick Maton doubled and tripled twice, drove in three runs and went 10-for-25 (.400) in six games… OF Simon Muzziotti had four extra-base hits (2 2B, 3B & HR), five RBI, eight runs scored and batted .323 (10-31) over seven contests… 2B Daniel Brito hit .320 (8-25) in six games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Connor Brogdon tossed 5.0 scoreless innings of relief (2 games) and fanned nine batters. He also earned a win and converted his lone save chance… RHP Julian Garcia recorded eight strikeouts and scattered three hits and one walk over 5.0 scoreless innings in his one start… LHP Zach Warren struck out seven batters over two relief appearances (3.0 IP). He allowed one unearned run, while earning a victory and a save. He owns the highest SO/9.0 IP ratio (14.02 - 68 SO, 43.2 IP) among qualifying relievers in the South Atlantic League this season.
Williamsport Crosscutters - New York-Penn League Pinckney Division… 17-25, T-4th place… The Crosscutters won their first series of the week, taking two of three at Vermont, before dropping two of three in their next series against Hudson Valley.
Top hitting performers - OF Ben Pelletier, the New York-Penn League Player of the Week, posted a .444/.524/.889 slash line, going 8-for-18 with two doubles, two home runs, three RBI and five runs scored in five games… 1B Madison Stokes had four doubles, four walks and five runs scored, while batting .364 (8-22) in six contests… INF/OF Jesus Henriquez doubled, drove in three runs, walked twice and went 5-for-14 (.357) over four games.
Top pitching performers - RHP Austin Ross struck out five batters and allowed one earned run in 4.2 innings of relief across two outings… LHP Manuel Silva made one start in which he recorded five strikeouts and surrendered two runs over 5.0 innings… LHP Keylan Killgore posted two scoreless relief appearances (2.2 IP) with three strikeouts and no walks. He also converted his only save opportunity.
Gulf Coast League Phillies East - Gulf Coast League Northeast Division… 19-13, 1st place.
Top hitting performers - OF Julio Francisco batted .400 (4-10) with two RBI, three walks and two stolen bases… OF Carlos De La Cruz went 4-for-11 (.364) with two doubles.
Top pitching performers - RHP Victor Santos recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings in his start on July 28 at the GCL Yankees East. He allowed just two hits and zero walks… LHP Gabriel Cotto surrendered one hit and did not allow a run over 3.0 innings in his only start.
Gulf Coast League Phillies West - Gulf Coast League Northwest Division… 17-16, 3rd place.
Top hitting performers - C Logan O'Hoppe doubled, tripled, homered, drove in three runs, scored five runs and went 6-for-15 (.400). He is batting .444 this season… SS Luis Garcia batted .421 (8-19) with a double, triple, three walks, four runs scored and three steals. His owns a .361 batting average in 2018… OF Yerwin Trejo collected a double, four RBI, six stolen bases and hit .407 (11-27)… 3B D.J. Stewart went 8-for-21 (.381) with a double, three RBI, six runs scored and five walks.
Top pitching performers - RHP Ben Brown, the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week, recorded a professional-best 16 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits and one walk in his only start… RHP Kyle Glogoski fanned seven batters in 6.0 scoreless innings during his one start.
