Phillies Minor League review: June 20-26

Players of the Week
Player -- CF Carlos Tocci, Clearwater… Tocci, 20, batted .515 (17-33) with three doubles, six RBI, two walks, a stolen base, six runs scored, a .543 on-base percentage and 1.149 OPS in seven games. He hit safely in all seven of those contests, extending his season-long hit streak to 10. Tocci had multiple hits five times last week, including a career-best five-hit effort on June 26 vs Daytona (5-6, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R). He is the first Threshers' player to record five hits in a game since 2013. Tocci, a Venezuela native, was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on August 23, 2011.
Pitcher -- RHP Jose Taveras, Lakewood… The 22-year-old Taveras made one start, setting a career-high and new franchise record by striking out 15 batters. Only three other BlueClaws' players had ever reached the 14 strikeout mark prior to his performance. In that same start, Taveras tossed 8.0 innings for the first time this season, holding Greenville to a run on just two hits while walking none. It was his third start of the season of at least 7.0 innings and two or fewer hits allowed. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder is tied for third in the South Atlantic League with 82 strikeouts and tied for fourth with a 1.02 WHIP (12 BB, 57 H in 67.2 IP). Taveras was signed by the Phillies out of the Dominican Republic as an amateur free agent on November 10, 2013.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs -- International League North Division…45-32, T-1st place… Lehigh Valley moved into a three-way tie for first place after winning six of their seven games last week. They allowed only 11 runs in those six wins (1.83 per game), surrendering only four during a three-game sweep of Durham.
Top hitting performers -- SS J.P. Crawford batted .300 (9-30) with a double, triple, four RBI, two walks, a stolen base and five runs scored. He had multiple hits in four of his seven games… OF Cedric Hunter played in four games, collecting seven hits in 12 at-bats (.583). He hit three doubles, walked three times and drove in a run… OF Nick Williams also doubled three times, driving in four runs in his six games played.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Jake Thompson made two starts, combining to go 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA (2 ER, 14.1 IP) and six strikeouts. He allowed one unearned run in 6.1 innings on June 26, marking the third time in his last five starts he has allowed no earned runs… RHP Ben Lively held Norfolk to just three hits and one run in his lone start. Lively has allowed five or fewer hits in all six of his starts with Lehigh Valley… RHP David Buchanan surrendered a run in 6.0 innings on June 24, striking out five and walking one.
Reading Fightin Phils -- Eastern League Eastern Division …53-23, 1st place… The Figthins went 4-2, winning consecutive series against Akron and Portland. Reading has the best record in all of affiliated baseball and holds a 6.0-game lead over the second-place Trenton Thunder.
Top hitting performers -- 1B Rhys Hoskins slugged three more home runs, hit three doubles and drove in eight runs while batting .400 (10-25) with a 1.324 OPS. He has recorded at least one RBI in six straight games (61 total) and is the first Phillies minor leaguer this season to break the 20-home run plateau… OF Andrew Pullin played his first three games at double-A, batting .538 (7-13) with a double, home run and four RBI. Going back to June 3 with Clearwater, Pullin has hit safely in each of his last 19 games… C Jorge Alfaro doubled three times, hit two home runs and knocked in six in his six games.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Tom Eshelman tossed 5.0 innings and allowed a run on seven hits while striking out five batters and walking one in his first double-A start… RHP Alexis Rivero made two relief appearances, striking out the side in his inning of work in the first and collecting a save in 2.1 scoreless frames in the second.
Clearwater Threshers -- Florida State League North Division…4-0, 1st place, 43-29 overall… Clearwater ended the first half in second place in the division, and started the second half by sweeping Brevard County and winning the first game of a series with Daytona. They have won each of their last six games.
Top hitting performers -  CF Carlos Tocci was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .515 (17-33) with three doubles, six RBI, two walks, a stolen base and a .543 on-base percentage. He now has a 10-game hitting streak… 2B Scott Kingery went 12-for-29 (.414) with two doubles, five RBI, two walks and seven runs scored. Kingery's 24 doubles are most in the league by six… 1B Zach Green hit three home runs (in three consecutive games) and drove in 13 runs in six total games played. He had three consecutive games with three or more RBI and has at least one in each of his last five games… SS Malquin Canelo batted .375 (9-24) with two doubles, a triple, six RBI and three walks.
Top pitching performers --  RHP Victor Arano worked three games out of the bullpen, combining for 7.0 innings, four hits, no walks and 12 strikeouts. He has pitched at least 2.0 innings in 14 of his 22 appearances… RHP Shane Watson struck out six and allowed only four hits in 6.0 scoreless innings on June 21… RHP Luke Leftwich made one start, surrendering two runs in 5.1 innings while striking out five.
Lakewood BlueClaws -- South Atlantic League Northern Division…2-2, T-4th place, 31-42 overall… The BlueClaws played only four games due to the South Atlantic League All-Star Break, going 2-2 to begin the second half. Top Lakewood performers in the All-Star Game included 2B Josh Tobias (1-2) and RHP Luke Leftwich (1.0 IP, H, SO).
Top hitting performers -- 2B Josh Tobias went 7-for-20 (.350) with a triple and four RBI… SS Grenny Cumana played in four games, hitting four doubles, driving in two runs, drawing two walks and stealing a base while batting .375 (6-16)… OF Jose Pujols batted .294 (5-17) with a double, home run and two RBI. He leads the South Atlantic League with 14 home runs.
Top pitching performers -- RHP Jose Taveras set a career-high and a franchise record by striking out 15 batters on June 25. He lasted 8.0 innings, allowed one run on two hits and did not walk a batter. Taveras was named Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… RHP Edgar Garcia pitched 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three. He has 12 strikeouts in his last three appearances (8.0 IP).
Williamsport Crosscutters -- New York-Penn League Pinckney Division…4-6, 4thplace… Williamsport dropped their first two and last two games of the week, but turned in a series sweep over Mahoning Valley in the middle. They shut out the Scrappers in the first game before finishing the sweep with two 2-1 victories.
Top hitting performers -- 1B Darick Hall hit three doubles, homered, walked three times and posted a 1.013 OPS in seven games… 1B Luis Encarnacion drove in two runs, scored three more and drew a walk
Top pitching performers --  RHP Adonis Medina did not allow a run and yielded only two hits in his 6.2 innings of work on June 22. He has started his season with a 12.2-inning scoreless streak… RHP Seranthony Dominguez held Mahoning Valley to a run on two hits in his 6.0-inning start… LHP Ranger Suarez struck out five in 5.0 shutout innings, walking none and surrendering four hits.
GCL Phillies -- Gulf Coast League, Northwest Division…1-0, 1st place…The Phillies played one full game, beating the GCL Yankees 7-0, and had another game suspended due to rain. The suspended game will be completed at a later date.
Top hitting performers -- SS Daniel Brito collected two hits in five at-bats and scored two runs in the Phillies' lone game… C Nerluis Martinez tripled and drove in three runs.
Top pitching performers --  RHP Sixto Sanchez tossed 5.0 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while striking out four batters.
