Here's the Phillies' player pool for their Spring Breakout game

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Phillies’ top three prospects could make splashes this season in Philadelphia.

Justin Crawford (No. 3 Phillies prospect, No. 53 prospect in baseball) is a lock to be the Opening Day center fielder. Andrew Painter (No. 2 Phillies prospect, No. 28 prospect in baseball) is a lock to make the rotation. Aidan Miller (No. 1 prospect, No. 23 prospect in baseball) could push for a promotion this summer.

The trio will not participate in Spring Breakout as they push for jobs and recover from an injury (Miller has a sore lower back). But Phillies fans can still get a look at the other top prospects in the system.

What is Spring Breakout?

In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.

In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

When is the Phillies’ game?

The Phillies play Minnesota’s top prospects in Ft. Myers on March 19. Toronto’s top prospects play the Phillies in Clearwater on March 21.

Notable position players

Dante Nori (No. 7) is playing right now for Italy in the World Baseball Classic, but he will be back in time to play. The Phillies selected Nori with the 27th overall pick in the 2024 Draft. His high school coach once compared him to Lenny Dykstra in regards to his style of play (i.e prototypical leadoff hitter). Infielder Aroon Escobar (No. 6) has continued to rise in the rankings among talent evaluators. Infielder Carson DeMartini (No. 18), catcher Kehden Hettiger (No. 28), shortstop Bryan Rincon (No. 29) and first baseman Keaton Anthony (No. 30), like Nori and Escobar, are in big league camp as non-roster invitees.

Notable pitchers

The Phillies selected Gage Wood (No. 4) with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 Draft. Almost immediately, fans wondered if he could join the bullpen for a postseason push. (It was never going to happen.) But Wood could be a fast mover through the Phillies’ system, much like Aaron Nola. The Phillies selected Nola in the first round of the 2014 Draft. He made the big leagues in 2015.

Right-hander Jean Cabrera (No. 15) is in big league camp. He is expected to open the season in the Triple-A Lehigh Valley rotation. Matthew Fisher (No. 12) is somebody the Phillies were thrilled to get in the seventh round of the 2025 Draft. Fisher got a $1.25 million signing bonus to miss college. It is the highest ever for a seventh-round pick.

Roster details

To accommodate the player movement involved with the World Baseball Classic and to create greater flexibility for clubs and farm directors, Spring Breakout rosters are being constructed in two phases in 2026. Clubs initially submit a preliminary 40-man player pool on Thursday, March 5, which will then be pared down to the official 23-27 man rosters on March 18.

The preliminary 40-man player pools consist of the team’s Top 30 prospects, as determined by MLB Pipeline, minus any injured players, players on a Dominican Summer League roster or players on the 40-man roster who have elected not to participate. The pools also include 10 or more additional unranked prospects submitted by the club to replace the above ranked prospects who are not participating.
