On Monday, January 17, the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP), Citizens, and the Phillies invite the public to stream a free virtual conversation on “Athletes and Activism: Sports, Racial Equality and Social Justice” as part of the Museum’s 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Celebration.

Participating in this hour-long conversation will be 2008 World Series champion and Phillies advisor Jimmy Rollins, 1983 National League Championship Series MVP and Phillies ambassador Gary “Sarge” Matthews, Hall of Fame basketball player, four-time Olympic gold medalist and women’s head basketball coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks Dawn Staley, and MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds, who was a two-time American League All-Star and 12-year MLB veteran.

Also featured is a special welcome by Ivan Henderson, Vice President of Programming, African American Museum in Philadelphia and Sharana Worsley, Community Development Market Manager, Citizens.

“Athletes and Activism: Sports, Racial Equality and Social Justice” will be pre-recorded with a live virtual audience at the start of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Celebration and then streamed to the public on January 17, at 3:00 p.m. ET, on Phillies YouTube, as well as on AAMP and Citizens websites.

This is the 16th year that the AAMP and Citizens have teamed up to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Thanks to a $30,000 donation from the Citizens Charitable Foundation, museum admission on Monday, January 17, is free and discounted on Saturday and Sunday for the 2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Celebration at AAMP.
