Phils to likely focus on small deals at Meetings

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. -- There is plenty of speculation about plenty of players and teams entering this week's Winter Meetings at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.
The Phillies are not one of those teams because they were relatively busy last month. They acquired left fielder and right-hander in trades with the Dodgers and Astros, respectively. accepted the team's one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer. They offered salary arbitration to , and . And they protected 11 prospects from Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, placing them on the 40-man roster.

So if the Phillies are going to make any moves this week, they figure to be of the more minor variety.
Maybe a utility infielder.
Maybe a relief pitcher.
Maybe an extra outfielder.
Of course, the Phillies are open-minded. If the right team puts together the right package of talent for one of the Phillies' young players, they most certainly will consider it.
