April 5th, 2023

Two standout shortstops. Two new uniforms. and are taking the field at Yankee Stadium, and you can watch for free right now on MLB.TV.

The matinee matchup in the Bronx is MLB.TV’s Free Game of the Day.

Expect plenty of action as the Phillies and Yankees square off in the finale of a three-game set. Two of the top seven teams in runs scored last season, the two clubs should deliver an exciting game.

And are plenty of new faces to see. The 2022 NL champion Phillies added the speedster Turner, who has the most stolen bases in the Major Leagues since 2019, to the top of their lineup. The five-tool star has started the season on a five-game hitting streak and is batting .391 after four straight two-hit games.

Meanwhile, Volpe -- MLB’s No. 5 prospect -- earned the Yankees’ starting shortstop job out of Spring Training. All the Yanks rookie did in New York’s opening series was steal a base in each of his first three career games, becoming the first player since 2013 and just the fifth since 1901 to accomplish the feat. His three steals are tied for fourth in the Majors.

If pitching is more your speed, the Phillies-Yankees matchup features a pair of aces on the mound. For the Yankees,  led the Major Leagues in strikeouts in 2022 with 257. A four-time finisher in the top five of Cy Young Award voting, Cole struck out 11 Giants over six scoreless innings on Opening Day to break a Yankees record. He has made eight career starts against the Phillies but just one since 2017.

, who finished fourth in 2022 NL Cy Young voting, will take the ball for the Phils. Nola was a workhorse last season (205 IP, 235 K) for the defending NL champs and is set to make his second start of 2023.

Of course, Nola isn’t the only Aaron on the field. 2022 AL MVP , coming off a historic 62-homer season, is hitting .350 through five games with two long balls in 2023.
