Pipeline preview: Adams looks to move to 13-0

August 6th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Saturday's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Bradley Zimmer (Indians' No. 1), Columbus at Louisville (6:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Zimmer, No. 33 on the Top 100, was at the heart of Triple-A Columbus' 17-run outburst on Friday night, going 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. The four-hit performance improved the 23-year-old outfielder's Triple-A average to .357 through 11 games, and he's hitting .264 through 104 games for the season.

Pitcher to watch: Chance Adams (Yankees' No. 14), Trenton at Harrisburg (6 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Adams, 21, enters the day with a perfect 12-0 record, having won seven of his nine starts since being promoted to Double-A Trenton. The 2015 fifth-rounder has been outstanding so far in his first full season, posting a 2.41 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP and a 123-33 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 108 1/3 innings (21 starts) between the Class A Advanced and Double-A levels. Opposing hitters, meanwhile, are batting just .166 against the right-hander.
Duel of the day: (Marlins' No. 5) vs. Sandy Alcantara (Cardinals' No. 9), Jupiter at Palm Beach (5:30 p.m. ET)
Last week was a busy one for Castillo, who was traded from Miami to San Diego as part of the deal, only to be dealt back to the Marlins after acquired hurler suffered an elbow injury in his first start for the Fish. The 23-year-old right-hander, who boasts a fastball that reaches triple digits, has opened eyes in his first full season as a starter, posting a 2.25 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and an 84-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 100 innings (20 games/18 starts) for Class A Advanced Jupiter.

Speaking of right-handers with triple-digit heaters, Alcantara is set to make his second start for Class A Advanced Palm Beach after struggling in his debut last week. The 20-year-old was bumped up to the Florida State League after an impressive showing at Class A Peoria, where he recorded a 4.08 ERA and was tied for the Midwest League lead with 119 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings.
