Pipeline preview: Sedlock looks to bounce back for IronBirds

August 30th, 2016

Here's a look at top prospects to watch Tuesday in Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Dustin Fowler (Yankees' No. 13), Trenton vs. New Hampshire (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Fowler extended his hitting streak to seven games Monday with a three-run homer in the fifth inning for Double-A Trenton. The outfield prospect has had a good month, hitting .298 with 28 RBIs through 26 games. And he's turned it up a notch during his hitting streak with two homers and nine RBIs during the stretch.

Pitcher to watch: Cody Sedlock (Orioles' No. 1), Aberdeen at State College (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Baltimore's first-round selection will take the mound looking to bounce back from a tough start. Sedlock gave up two earned runs or less in each of his first seven starts, but was tagged with four earned runs in three innings in his most recent start. The 21-year-old right-hander has a 3.38 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 24 innings.

Duel of the Day: Hansel Rodriguez (Padres' No. 19) vs. Dylan Cease (Cubs' No. 4), Tri-City vs. Eugene (10:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Rodriguez has been putting together a solid season, but he struggled in his last outing. The 19-year-old, who was traded for Melvin Upton Jr., was charged with seven runs in just two frames. Despite the rough line, Rodriguez has a 4.44 ERA through 10 starts in the Blue Jays' and Padres' organizations and has given up two earned runs or fewer in six starts.
Not only has Cease been tough to score against lately, but he's been tough to hit as well. The 20-year-old right-hander has given up five hits across his last 13 innings. Over his past five starts, Cease has given up more than one hit just once and has held his opponents to one earned run or less in each of those outings.
