The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired infielder Chris Bostick from the Washington Nationals in exchange for Minor League catcher Taylor Gushue and cash considerations. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
The 23-year-old Bostick hit a combined .250 (121-for-484) with 22 doubles, 10 triples, eight home runs and 51 RBIs in 135 games this season between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse.
Bostick was originally selected by Oakland in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft before being acquired by Texas on December 3, 2013. The right-handed hitting infielder was then acquired by Washington along with pitcher Abel De Los Santos in exchange for pitcher Ross Detwiler on December 11, 2014.
Bostick has a career average of .263 (613-for-2329) with 122 doubles, 39 triples, 49 home runs, 294 RBIs and 107 stolen bases in 615 games since making his professional debut in 2011. He entered this season tabbed as Washington's 23rd-best prospect according to MLB.com.
Bostick has been added to the 40-man roster but will not report to Pittsburgh. To make room for Bostick on the 40-man roster, infielder Josh Harrison has been placed on the 60-day disabled list (right groin strain).
