Pirates' staff nearing completion with additions of Negrón, Beasley (source)

The Pirates are hiring Kristopher Negrón as their bench coach and Tony Beasley as third-base coach, according to a source, bringing the Pirates’ coaching staff closer to completion.

Pittsburgh has not yet confirmed the hires.

Negrón, 39, played six years in the Majors from 2012-19 as a utilityman. A week after his retirement as a player in '19, he joined the Mariners as an assistant to the director of player development, and he took over as manager of the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers in '21. He was elevated to the Mariners’ coaching staff in '22 as a first-base coach, and he was named the third-base coach in '25.

The Pirates did not have a traditional bench coach after Don Kelly was elevated to manager midseason, instead opting to hire Gene Lamont and splitting bench coach duties among other coaches. While no official announcement has been made, the expectation was that Lamont would not return to the Major League staff.

Beasley, 58, has spent 18 years in the Pirates’ organization in a variety of roles, including as third-base coach from 2008-10. Most of his time with the organization has been in player development and the Minor Leagues. He joined the Rangers’ coaching staff in '15 and held a variety of roles before the two sides parted following the 2025 season, including first- and third-base coach and helping with infield and outfield defense. Beasley managed 48 games with the Rangers in '22 on an interim basis, when he went 17-31.

Earlier this month, Pittsburgh hired Bill Murphy of the Astros as their new pitching coach. There are still a few more hires coming to Kelly’s coaching staff, including one or two support roles, and for the training room and weight room.
