Bucs' first spring workout dates announced

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates' front office staff, coaches and a number of players and prospects arrived at Pirate City on Monday for their annual mini-camp, four days of voluntary workouts away from the cold weather up north. Now, they know when they'll return to their Spring Training home.
Major League Baseball announced the first workout days for all 30 clubs on Monday. Pirates pitchers and catchers are scheduled to take part in their first workout on Feb. 19, while the first full-squad workout of 2016 will take place on Feb. 23.

The Bucs will once again return to Pirate City, their Spring Training complex, as they prepare for Grapefruit League games. Once their exhibition schedule begins, the Major League club will move across town to McKechnie Field.
The Pirates previously announced their Spring Training game schedule. Their annual Black and Gold exhibition game will take place at noon ET on Feb. 29. Their Grapefruit League opener is March 1 against the Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla. Pittsburgh's McKechnie Field opener is March 2 against the Tigers.
