The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced today an agreement with Slice on Broadway to open a location at PNC Park in time for the 2016 season. The newest addition to PNC Park, Slice, which was named among the Best Non-Chain Pizzerias according to Pittsburgh Magazine readers in 2014, boasts gourmet pizza-by-the-slice in more than 15 different selections daily.
The Pittsburgh-based pizza parlor's North Shore location will be open to the public year-round for extended hours, as well as to fans inside PNC Park on game days. It will be located in the former Diamond Pizza space, next to Atria's Restaurant at the base of the Clemente Bridge.
"We are proud to partner with top local businesses such as Slice on Broadway, as we work to continually improve the game day experience at PNC Park, as well as the variety of restaurant options available on the North Shore," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly. "Slice on Broadway is a very popular Pittsburgh eatery with excellent pizza, hoagies and salads. This agreement is an example of our desire to offer the fans at PNC Park a flavor of the best the local Pittsburgh food scene has to offer."
In addition to award winning pizza, customers can also select from 15 different hoagies or one of their fresh salads which are a mixture of green leaf lettuce, baby spinach and other fresh produce. Fans can also enjoy one of the top hoagie sellers at Slice, the "Gonzo" with sliced steak, crisp bacon, and gorgonzola cheese and topped with baby spinach, red onion and a house made balsamic vinaigrette.
In 2015 Slice earned the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Readers Choice Awards in Gold and Silver respectively for Pizza and Hoagies.
"We are excited for the opportunity to partner with the Pirates and look forward to becoming the top pizza destination for the North Shore, providing real pizza with the freshest ingredients at affordable prices," said Slice on Broadway owner Rico Lunardi.
This is the second local restaurant the Pirates have worked to bring to PNC Park as the team announced in February the addition of Steel Cactus Mexican Restaurante and Cantina to Federal Street. Both new restaurants will be open in time for Pirates Opening Day on Sunday, April 3.
