Pirates rediscover offensive spark, pile on in rout vs. Mariners

PITTSBURGH -- After three innings on Wednesday, the Pirates had produced just one hit across their last seven innings, dating back to Tuesday’s game. While Pittsburgh is missing two of its key contributors in Konnor Griffin and Oneil Cruz, it still ranks at the top of the Major Leagues in hits.

It took until the fourth inning, but the Pirates continued their offensive explosion in 2026. Pittsburgh tallied six hits and five runs in the frame, leading to an 11-1 win over Seattle.

Pirates starter Braxton Ashcraft was quickly ambushed with three straight singles through his first six pitches, giving up a 1-0 lead on a hit from Julio Rodríguez to score J.P. Crawford. Ashcraft settled in despite allowing a double in both the second and third innings, tossing 51 pitches through three innings and allowing only one run.

Mariners starter Bryan Woo held the Pirates down through the first three innings before Bryan Reynolds singled to extend his on-base streak to 29 games -- the longest single-season streak for the organization since 2005. Reynolds sparked the Pirates as Nick Gonzales reached on a fielder’s choice and Ryan O’Hearn doubled.

Endy Rodríguez then hit a two-run double, Tyler Callihan added an RBI triple, Jake Mangum followed with an RBI single and Esmerlyn Valdez -- pinch-hitting for Spencer Horwitz -- capped the inning with an RBI single. The damage cost Woo 40 pitches and was enough to end his day.

Ashcraft rediscovered his groove after the first inning, striking out 10 and retiring his last nine batters in order. The Pirates then added on with four more runs in the seventh and two in the eighth, and it was plenty to put the game away and return to the win column.
