The Pirates' top prospect was put on the shelf Thursday, as Triple-A Indianapolis moved outfielder Austin Meadows to the seven-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.
Meadows left Indianapolis' game on Wednesday following a first-inning groundout. After undergoing tests, Meadows was placed on the disabled list for the first time this season. It is unclear how long he will be out.
The 22-year-old has dealt with hamstring injuries in the past. Last July, he was sidelined for a month by a right hamstring strain. He missed time in 2014 due to a strained left hamstring.
Meadows is the Pirates' No. 1 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, and the No. 6 prospect in baseball. He is slashing .248/.313/.358 with four home runs and 10 steals in an up-and-down season, his first full Triple-A campaign.

Meadows is one step away from the Majors, though the Pirates have not indicated at any point this season that they have considered calling him up. General manager Neal Huntington conveyed just the opposite in mid-April following Starling Marte's 80-game suspension, in fact, saying Meadows was not yet ready for the big leagues.
Many have speculated that Meadows will eventually take over for Andrew McCutchen, who seems like a candidate to be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline if he remains hot and the Pirates are out of the National League Central race.
Indianapolis also placed infielder Mpho' Ngoepe, who made his Major League debut this season, on the seven-day DL with a left hamstring strain. To replace Meadows, Ngoepe and catcher Jacob Stallings, who was called up by the Pirates on Thursday, Indianapolis added outfielder Justin Maffei, infielder Anderson Feliz and catcher John Bormann to its roster.
