Young talent showcased at Pitch, Hit & Run

November 6th, 2021

Game 5 of the 2021 World Series was not the last time incredible young talent took the field at Truist Park this season.

On Nov. 1, The Pitch, Hit & Run competition -- featuring kids ages 7-14 -- showcased some of tomorrow’s stars.

The finalists comprised the best of the best from local communities around the country, with participants competing in either the baseball or softball division.

The competition was broken down into three segments:

The PITCH portion of the program tested how accurately a competitor can throw strikes to a designated "Strike Zone" target from a designated distance (35 feet for the softball division and 45 feet for the baseball division).

The HIT portion of the program tested a competitor's ability to hit from a stationary batting tee, along a tape measure from home plate, toward straight-away center field. Hits were measured for distance and accuracy.

The RUN portion of the program measured a competitor's speed in a sprint from the start line, touching third base, and touching home plate. All participants ran a total of 120 feet.

The lineup of Pitch, Hit & Run alumni to reach the Majors is impressive. Eric Hosmer, J.P. Crawford, Rhys Hoskins, Andrew McCutchen and Joey Gallo represent just some of the active big leaguers who took the field for Pitch, Hit & Run during their youth years.

Congratulations to this year’s winners, and everyone who competed along the way!
