Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Globe Life Field:
- Left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery activated from 60-day Injured List
- Right-handed pitcher Nolan Kingham designated for assignment
Montgomery, 33, made 8 minor league starts on rehabilitation assignments with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock since June 21, posting a 3.75 ERA (10 ER/24.0 IP) with 21 strikeouts, 3 walks, and one home run allowed. The left-hander pitched 3.0 scoreless innings over 2 starts for Frisco in late June and made his final 6 rehab starts for Round Rock, most recently tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts in an 85-pitch outing on Sunday vs. Reno. Left-handed batters hit just .162 (6-37) with 11 strikeouts against Montgomery across his rehab stint.
An 8-year Major League veteran, Montgomery is seeking his first MLB appearance since September 22, 2024 at Milwaukee with Arizona, as he underwent 'Tommy John' ligament replacement surgery on March 28, 2025, performed by Rangers team physician Keith Meister. He missed the entire 2025 campaign, rehabbing in the Diamondbacks and Brewers organizations before signing a one-year Major League contract with the Rangers on February 13, 2026.
In 166 career MLB games (161 starts), the Sumter, S.C. native and University of South Carolina product is 46-41 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.268 WHIP figure for New York-AL (2017-22), St. Louis (2022-23), Texas (2023), and Arizona (2024). Montgomery's most recent appearance with the Rangers came in 2023 World Series Game 2 vs. Arizona (6.0 IP, 4 R-ER), as the southpaw fashioned a 2.83 ERA across 17 games (16 starts) for Texas between the regular season and postseason following a July 30, 2023 trade from St. Louis. He was originally selected in the 4th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Yankees and finished 6th in A.L. Rookie of the Year voting during his 2017 debut campaign.
The 29-year-old Kingham appeared in one game for Texas – his Major League debut – on Monday vs. San Francisco, allowing one earned run in one inning of relief (1 H, 2 BB, 1 SO, 22 pitches/11 strikes). The right-hander appeared in 11 games (10 starts) for Triple-A Round Rock from May 29-July 28 after being inked by Texas to a minor league contract on May 28.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 40 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler and Jose Corniell, LHP’s Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, INF/OF Michael Helman, and C Danny Jansen).
