Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to today’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays at Globe Life Field:
- Right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill placed on 15-day Injured List (right lat strain)
- Right-handed pitcher Winston Santos recalled from Triple-A Round Rock
Quantrill was lifted with one out in the 2nd inning of last night’s game vs. Toronto due to the lat injury after registering 1.1 scoreless frames. The 31-year-old right-hander had recorded a career-high 6 consecutive quality starts prior to yesterday and has posted a 1.75 ERA (11 ER/56.2 IP) in his last 11 games/10 starts since July 28, owning the 2nd-lowest qualified ERA in MLB during the span ahead of only New York-AL’s Cam Schlittler (1.64 ERA). In 32 games/15 starts for Texas in 2026, Quantrill is 9-5 with a 2.86 ERA (35 ER/110.0 IP) and a 1.036 WHIP figure. He is not eligible to return in the regular season.
Santos, 24, is beginning his third stint with the Rangers in 2026, as he was also on the active roster from June 24-July 1 and on July 30. His lone appearance with Texas this year was his Major League debut on July 1 at Cleveland, a relief appearance in the Dominican Republic native allowed 2 runs in 2.0 innings pitched. Santos has spent the remainder of the season with the club’s two highest minor league affiliates, combining for a 4-4 record and 6.80 ERA (63 ER/83.1 IP) with 103 strikeouts in 25 games/19 starts for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. Since August 23, the right-hander has a 3.63 ERA (7 ER/17.1 IP) in 5 games/4 starts with the Express.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, Jack Leiter, and Cole Winn, LHP Jalen Beeks, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
