The 24-year-old White will be seeking his season debut with Texas

April 19th, 2024

Atlanta, Georgia — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Friday night’s series opener against the Braves at Truist Park:

  • Right-handed pitcher Owen White (#43) recalled from Round Rock (AAA).
  • Right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter optioned to Round Rock (AAA).

White, 24, will be seeking his season debut after posting an 0-2 record and 7.30 ERA (10 ER/12.1 IP) across 3 starts for Triple-A Round Rock, having last pitched on April 11 versus Oklahoma City (L, 4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R-2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO). The right-hander was in Major League camp this spring for a second consecutive year, recording a 9.00 ERA (6 ER/6.0 IP) over 3 games (one start) in Cactus League ‘A’ games.

This will mark White’s second season in the Major Leagues after appearing briefly with Texas over a pair of stints in 2023 (June 13-14, July 23-27). He made his Major League debut on June 13, 2023, compiling an 11.25 ERA (5 ER/4.0 IP) over 2 relief appearances with the Rangers last season.

The Mount Ulla, N.C., native owns a career 17-10 record and 3.99 ERA (105 ER/236.2 IP) in 52 games (49 starts) spanning four seasons in the Rangers minor league system. White was originally selected by Texas in the 2nd round of the 2018 MLB Draft but did not make his pro debut until 2021 after missing all of the 2020 (pandemic) and 2019 (‘Tommy John’ surgery) seasons.

Leiter, 23, made his Major League debut as the starter in Thursday’s win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park and did not factor into the decision, allowing 7 earned runs on 8 hits over 3.2 innings pitched.
