Minneapolis — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Sunday afternoon’s series finale against the Twins at Target Field:

  • Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito (#58) contract selected from Round Rock (AAA).
  • Right-handed pitcher Shaun Anderson designated for assignment.

Garabito, 28, is seeking his Major League debut after going 1-2 with a 2.05 ERA (7 ER/30.2 IP), 10 walks, and 37 strikeouts across 7 games (5 starts) for Frisco (AA) and Round Rock (AAA) this season. He last appeared on May 18 in a start for Round Rock against Reno (ND, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R-1 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO, 87 pitches/59 strikes). The right-hander has allowed one earned run over his last 17.1 IP (0.52 ERA) spanning 4 games (3 starts) since April 30, pacing the Pacific Coast League in ERA (min. 15.0 IP) in that span.

A native of San Cristobal, DR, Garabito was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Kansas City Royals in September of 2012 and has had minor league stints in the Kansas City (2013-19), San Francisco (2021), and Texas (2024) systems. The right-hander has logged a 30-45 career record and 3.50 ERA (270 ER/693.2 IP) in 158 games/130 starts over parts of 9 minor league seasons.

Garabito did not see affiliated action from the end of the 2021 season until the beginning of the 2024 campaign, as he appeared in the Dominican Winter League (2023-24 for Aguilas Cibaenas), Nicaraguan Winter League (2022-23 for Leones de León), and Venezuelan Winter League (2021-22 for Leones del Caracas), combining to go 6-2 with a 2.86 ERA (22 ER/69.1 IP) in 17 games (12 starts) over those international stints.

Anderson, 29, posted no record and a 5.40 ERA (2 ER/3.1 IP), one walk, and 3 strikeouts across a pair of relief outings for the Rangers this season. He most recently appeared in Friday’s series opener against Minnesota (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB).

With these transactions, Texas remains at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with nine players on the 60-day Injured List: Cody Bradford, Brock Burke, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Justin Foscue, Josh Jung, Tyler Mahle, Austin Pruitt, and Max Scherzer.
