Red Sox place right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock on 15-day injured list

Club recalls left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock on the 15-Day Injured List with a left oblique strain. To fill Whitlock’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques from Triple-A Worcester.

Whitlock, 27, allowed two runs in 4.0 innings last night against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-hander has made four starts this season, posting a 1.96 ERA (4 ER/18.1 IP). Selected from the New York Yankees in the Major League phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft, the Georgia native has gone 18-11 with a 3.39 ERA (91 ER/241.2 IP) in 103 career appearances (23 starts) for the Red Sox (2021-24).

Jacques, 29, pitched in four games for Worcester this season, allowing seven runs in 4.0 innings. The left-hander pitched in six Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox this spring, allowing five earned runs in 5.1 innings. Originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Manhattan College, the New Jersey native owns a 5.06 ERA (15 ER/26.2 IP) in 23 career games (one start) with the Red Sox (2023).
