The biggest amateur baseball tournament in Canada makes its long-awaited return with the eighth-annual Canadian Futures Showcase, running from September 20 to 24 in the nation’s capital. Hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Academy, the event provides Canada’s rising amateur talent with draft and college eligibility the opportunity to further their athletic and academic careers by highlighting their skills to MLB scouts and college recruiters.

Traditionally hosted in Toronto, the Canadian Futures Showcase will be held at Ottawa Stadium (RCGT Park) for this year only, due to scheduling conflicts at Rogers Centre.

“The Blue Jays are committed to growing the game and elevating this country’s elite amateur players on the North American stage through our Baseball Academy programming,” said Mark Shapiro, President & CEO, Toronto Blue Jays. “The showcase has produced success stories throughout its history and continues to be a destination for players and recruiters alike. We are pleased to see its return to the baseball calendar after a two-year hiatus and grateful to the city of Ottawa for providing us with a temporary home.”

The showcase splits 140 players evenly between six teams to compete against each other in a tournament-style format, concluding with a home run derby and prospects game on the final day. Players were selected through a series of open tryouts and in-person evaluations that ran nationally over the spring and summer.

The Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Academy looks to build on the historic success of the tournament. Since 2013, 110 former Canadian Futures Showcase participants have been drafted by Major League Baseball organizations, with more than 500 receiving college scholarships. Six players are currently active in the big leagues this season, including Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Zach Pop (Brampton, ON). Other notable alumni include Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Soroka (Calgary); Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor (Mississauga, ON); Seattle Mariners third baseman Abraham Toro (Longueuil, QC); Seattle Mariners pitcher Matt Brash (Kingston, ON); and Miami Marlins third baseman Charles Leblanc (Laval, QC).

Fans looking to catch all the action in Ottawa will be able to purchase Canadian Future Showcase Passes and Single Day Passes in the coming weeks. For more information, visit bluejays.com/futures.
