MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Josh Staumont from Triple-A St. Paul.

Staumont, who was signed by the Twins on December 27, began the season on Minnesota’s 15-day Injured List with a left calf strain. He was reinstated on April 19 and optioned to St. Paul, where he appeared in five games from April 20-May 5, going 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA (7.0 IP, 2 ER), two walks, 11 strikeouts and a .200 opponent batting average. The 30-year-old appeared in 21 games (1 start) for the Kansas City Royals in 2023, posting a 5.40 ERA (20.0 IP, 12 ER) with 13 walks, 24 strikeouts and a 1.45 WHIP, while averaging 10.80 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings.

To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala to St. Paul. Alcala, who was recalled by Minnesota on Friday, appeared in two games during his most recent stint, allowing four runs on six hits in 2.2 innings pitched, with three walks and one strikeout. Over eight appearances with the Twins this season overall, he has gone 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA (11.0 IP, 4 ER), six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Staumont will be in uniform for tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners, wearing uniform number 63 and looking to make his Twins debut.
