The Pulaski River Turtles picked up their first home victory of the season with an 11-9 win over the Burlington Sock Puppets on Saturday night.
The Sock Puppets (4-5) didn't hesitate to attack with a six-run top of the first. The offense didn't stop there as the River Turtles answered with a strong four-run bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run homer by John Bay. The River Turtles scored a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-5 in favor of Burlington. The fourth inning was action-packed with both Burlington and Pulaski scoring three runs apiece.
The River Turtles (3-6) took their first lead of the night in the bottom of the fifth after a two-run homer to left-field by Garrett Rice making the game 10-9.
Pulaski extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a sac-fly by pinch-hitter Jackson Beaman to bring in Cameron Leary and make the game by 11-9.
Player of the Game honors went to first baseman Garrett Rice. Rice went 2-for-4 on the night with a single in fourth and more importantly: the game-winning two-run homer in the fifth.
Zac Capps picked up the win on the mound after pitching two scoreless innings and striking out four.
Pulaski looks to complete the sweep on Sunday with a rematch against the Burlington Sock Puppets.
