Pulaski sweeps Johnson City to remain atop Eastern Division

July 22nd, 2021

The Pulaski River Turtles completed the sweep over the Johnson City Doughboys after a 9-4 victory on Wednesday. The game's story would be Myles Smith's amazing night hitting his first two homers of the season, with one of them being a grand slam.

Johnson City (12-23-1) would get on the board quickly with a leadoff home run from Jaxson Crull that made it 1-0 after the first inning.

Despite Johnson City's quick start, Pulaski (25-14) would take complete control of the game by scoring nine straight runs.

Myles Smith would hit his first homer of the season in the second, a two-run shot over the right-field wall to give the River Turtles a 2-1 lead.

The third inning is where Pulaski would begin to run away. In Smith's next at-bat, he would hit his second homer of the game, this time a grand slam to right-center field. Beaman would follow that up with a two-run double to make it 8-1.

Pulaski added an insurance run in the fourth courtesy of a Garrett Rice RBI single to increase the lead to 9-1.

Johnson City would threaten in the ninth, loading the bases twice and scoring three runs. Despite Johnson City's late run, they would find Pulaski's lead to be too great as the River Turtles would come away with the win.

The win went to Brandon Gielow, as he went five innings, allowing five hits, only one earned run, walked two, and struck out four. The loss went to Walker Trusley, who went 2 2/3 innings allowing four hits, five earned runs, walked five, and struck out one.

The Turtle of the Game went to Myles Smith. He went 2-for-3, with both hits being home runs and the second being the early grand slam.

Johnson City heads back home for a four-game homestand, beginning with a two-game series against the Kingsport Road Warriors. Meanwhile, Pulaski starts a four-game road trip before the All-Star break. They start the trip off with a visit to Bristol to face the State Liners.
