Scranton/Wilkes-Barre won plenty of games this season, but it was the 98th victory that officially gave them the title of champions.
The RailRiders captured their first national championship with a 3-1 win over El Paso in the 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night in Memphis, Tenn.
"Great year, we went through a lot of stuff," Scranton/Wilkes-Barre manager Al Pedrique said on the broadcast after the win. "This is a normal Triple-A team, but we never gave up. We lost some key players and the team did a great job [to] keep playing. They believed in themselves."

Yankees' No. 19 prospect Jordan Montgomery spun a gem from the mound, Chris Parmelee drove in three and the RailRiders concluded the campaign with an euphoric celebration on the pitcher's mound.
The title comes after a 91-52 regular season, a sweep in the International League semifinals and a four-game series win over Gwinnett in the Finals, as the club won its second Governors' Cup.
Montgomery set the tone early, retiring the side in order in the first and the RailRiders offense promptly provided him with a three-run cushion in the bottom of the frame.

Mark Payton and Yankees top prospectClint Frazier (No. 16 overall) began the inning with a pair of singles and then Parmelee, who was named the game's MVP, concluded his seven-pitch at-bat with a three-run homer to right.

"I was just looking for a good pitch, [a] good pitch to hit and try to hammer it," Parmelee said. "That's my job on this team, to put the ball in the seats as many times as I can, I'm going up there looking to do damage every time."
Working with a three-run lead, Montgomery attacked the strike zone and cruised through five innings. The 23-year-old left-hander threw 52 of his 70 pitches for strikes, including first-pitch strikes to 15 of 21 batters.
"It's always easier, takes a lot of pressure off when your guys are swinging it," Montgomery said of having an early lead. "They're a really aggressive team, so I tried to keep them off balance as well as I could."

El Paso started to get to Montgomery in the sixth, their third trip through the order, but after three consecutive hits to begin the inning, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre turned to the bullpen and Johnny Barbato limited the damage.
El Paso starter Walker Lockett retired 14 of the 17 batters he faced after giving up the home run and finished five innings with three runs on seven hits, but the damage had been done.
The Chihuahuas' offense, which featured five of the Padres' Top 30 prospects, was held in check throughout the evening. Padres' No. 2 prospectManuel Margot, the No. 27 overall prospect, singled and scored in the sixth, but El Paso finished 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and advanced just two runners to third base.
