Vásquez discharged from hospital following fainting incident

LOS ANGELES -- After fainting at Dodger Stadium on Thursday night, Padres right-hander has been released from a hospital and was en route to the team's hotel on Friday morning, manager Craig Stammen said on MLB Network Radio.

Vásquez was on his way to get an X-ray on his right ankle when he fainted. He was subsequently taken to a local emergency room, where he underwent further tests.

"That's great news in what could have been a really scary situation and definitely caught everybody off-guard," said Stammen. "But glad Randy's doing well, and X-rays were negative and all the tests came back pretty clean."

Vásquez, who started Thursday’s 12-7 loss to the Dodgers, was struck in the right ankle by a Mookie Betts comebacker in the bottom of the first inning. He would remain in the game and completed three innings, allowing four runs, but was removed after 50 pitches.

Afterward, Vásquez was sent for an X-ray. It was on his way to that X-ray that Vásquez passed out, per Stammen. A team trainer was on hand, accompanying him.

“He was on his way to get an X-ray here in the stadium and fainted,” Stammen said. “So we took him to the emergency room just as a precaution. He’s conscious. He’s getting all his tests done.

"So we don’t really know about his ankle yet. He’s getting all those kinds of tests. We’ll know more hopefully tonight and tomorrow.”
