ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have acquired left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez from the Phillies for either a player to be named or cash considerations.
Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Thursday. He was 1-2 with a 6.33 ERA in 26 relief appearances, allowing 37 hits and 15 walks in 27 innings while striking out 18.
The Phillies acquired Rodriguez from the Pirates in 2014, and he made his Major League debut last September, posting a 2.79 ERA in 12 games. He has been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.

• Outfielder Carlos Gomez, who is on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring, is expected to be assigned to Double-A Frisco on rehab assignment Wednesday. He could be activated this weekend.
• Tyson Ross could make his first start for the Rangers on Friday. He has been on the disabled list from the beginning of the season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
