The Angels appear to be open for business, and their first trade of 2026 involves an American League West rival.
The Rangers acquired catcher Logan O’Hoppe and right-hander Chase Silseth from Los Angeles on Wednesday for Minor League infielder Angel Arredondo. It represents the first deal made by the Angels, who entered Wednesday’s game against the Astros with a 42-66 record, the worst in the AL.

O’Hoppe, a former top prospect who was acquired by the Angels for Brandon Marsh in 2022, has struggled in 2026 with a .209/.271/.295 batting line and four home runs in 75 games. He hit 20 homers in 2024 and 19 in 2025. O’Hoppe has a career .671 OPS in five MLB seasons. The Rangers optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock after the trade.
Silseth was a reliable reliever for the Angels prior to the trade, posting a 2.72 ERA in 47 appearances with 48 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. A starter at the time of his 2022 debut, he transitioned full time to the bullpen in 2025 and should help a Texas ’pen with righty Chris Martin and lefty Jalen Beeks on the injured list.
Arredondo, 19, was not ranked among the Rangers’ Top 30 prospects. In 85 games for Single-A Hickory, the shortstop has a .243/.371/.392 batting line with eight home runs and three stolen bases.
Wednesday's deal could be the first of several involving the Angels, who have been rumored to be entertaining offers for shortstop Zach Neto and left-handed starter Reid Detmers, among other players.
