ARLINGTON -- Outfielder Lewis Brinson, who is the Rangers' No. 4 prospect according to MLB.com, is among eight Minor League players who have been invited to big league Spring Training.
The others are pitchers Myles Jaye, Francisco Mendoza and Scott Williams, catchers Kellin Deglan and Brett Nicholas, infielder Drew Robinson and outfielder Ryan Cordell.
Brinson, who was the Rangers' 2015 Minor League Defender of the Year, combined to bat .332 with 20 home runs, 69 RBIs and 18 stolen bases over 100 games with Class A Advanced High Desert, Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. He was the Rangers' first-round pick in the 2012 Draft.
Deglan, a first-round pick in 2010, reached Double-A for the first time last season and combined to hit .231 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs in 81 games with High Desert and Frisco. Nicholas, 27, spent the entire season at Round Rock, hitting .268 with 12 home runs and a team-high 63 RBIs in 109 games.
Cordell, a mid-season All-Star in the California League, hit .270 with 18 home runs and 75 RBIs over 124 games with High Desert and Frisco. He was an 11th-round pick in 2013 out of Liberty University.
Robinson, a fourth-round pick in 2010, led the Texas League with 21 home runs while hitting .231 with 64 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He was fifth in the league with 78 runs scored and 10th with a .454 slugging percentage.
Cordell and Robinson have tremendous versatility. Cordell has played all three outfield spots plus third, short and second in three Minor League seasons. Robinson has played all four infield positions and both corner outfield spots in six Minor League seasons.
Jaye, who was acquired in a trade with the White Sox on Dec. 10, was 12-9 with a 3.29 ERA over 26 starts with Double-A Birmingham in 2015. Mendoza was 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA and six saves over 44 games with Frisco and Round Rock last season.
Williams, 22, was 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA and 10 saves in 29 relief appearances with Class A Hickory. He was mainly a catcher in college before converting to pitching full-time after being drafted by the Rangers in the 11th round in 2014 out of Manatee-Sarasota (Fla.) State College.
The Rangers have 14 non-roster players coming to Major League camp, along with pitchers A.J. Griffin and Cesar Ramos, catchers Bobby Wilson and Michael McKenry, infielder Pedro Ciriaco and outfielder James Jones.
