ARLINGTON -- Rangers great Ivan Rodriguez could be voted into the Hall of Fame in 2017, so this will be a great time to play golf with him.
That's one of the items in an online auction in honor of Shannon Forde, the former Mets public relations staffer who passed away earlier this year after a battle with breast cancer. Auction items can be found at mlb.com/shannon, and a round of golf with a potential Hall of Famer is one of two items up for bid by Texas.
The winning bidder and a guest will join Rodriguez and another former Rangers teammate for a round of golf at the Las Colinas Country Club, followed by a night at a Texas game. The package includes tickets and parking for two people, and it will take place on a mutually agreed upon date.
The other item put up by the club is the Ultimate Texas Rangers Fan Experience. The winning bidder will receive two tickets to a 2017 Rangers home game, watch batting practice from the field, meet infielder , eat dinner in the press box, watch part of the game from the press box, attend manager Jeff Banister's postgame news conference and receive personalized jerseys for each guest.
The charity auction was organized by Major League baseball and all 30 clubs, and it will benefit youth baseball and softball in Forde's hometown of Little Ferry, N.J. The funds from the auction will help build a field in her name. Fans can bid on more than 100 unique baseball-related experiences or memorabilia packages for this cause.
