Rangers' Gallo crushes homer into players' lot

March 13th, 2016

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Joey Gallo hit his second home run of the spring, and this one can officially be classified as a monster shot.
Gallo, Texas' No. 1 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, crushed an 0-1 pitch from Angels starter Matt Shoemaker deep over the right-field wall in Sunday's Cactus League game at Tempe. The ball landed in the players' parking lot and was last seen bounding it's way toward Tucson.
"I think it was a slurve," said Gallo. "He doubled up on it. The first pitch, I swung through it, but I was able to stay back a little longer and get just enough of it to keep it stay fair.

"I think he hit it pretty good," first baseman Mitch Moreland said. "Topspin, line drive. … That's a good one."
Gallo also had a home run on Friday against the Brewers in Maryvale.
"Spring Training last year, I felt close to this, but this year I feel strong and confident and like I belong here more than last year," said Gallo. "[Last year] was my first camp, and I was just trying to figure things out and get comfortable. Now, I know I can play and compete against these guys."
