ARLINGTON -- The Rangers enjoyed a walk-off win on Thursday night, but starter Martin Perez was left with a no-decision despite allowing just two runs in 6 1/3 innings.
With the no-decision, Perez is winless in his last six games. Prior to his outing Thursday, the left-hander had lost four straight starts, which was the longest active streak in the American League. Perez is hardly concerned about his winless streak, though.
"That was important … that we got the win," Perez said. "It was still a good outing."
What the Rangers like about Perez's last two starts is that he is beginning to cut down on walks. He is still tied for fourth in the AL, but he has walked just two in the last 12 1/3 innings over his past two starts.
"I'm attacking and throwing my stuff down the middle," Perez said. "I don't need to be perfect. I know how good I am. So I throw it down the middle and see how good I am."
Perez left with the Rangers trailing, 2-0, before they rallied for a 5-2 victory on a three-run home run by Mike Napoli with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Napoli also had a home run in the eighth.
"Martin, the way he threw ball, he gave us a chance to get back in the game," Napoli said. "He threw a great game."
Perez's next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Phillies.
"I just want to compete and give us a chance to win," Perez said. "If we win, good. If we lose, just come back and do it again. I'm feeling good. My focus is on quality starts, not walking anybody and going deep in the game."
