The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room on the active roster for Claudio, the team has optioned right-handed pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez to Round Rock.
 
Claudio will be in his fourth stint with the Rangers this season, the others from April 13-May 6, May 8-June 2, and June 16-26. He has gone 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (9 ER/18.0 IP) over 13 relief outings with Texas in 2016, including 2.0 scoreless innings in his last appearance for the Rangers on June 21 vs. Cincinnati. Claudio has also made 6 relief appearances with the Express, posting no record and one save with a 0.55 ERA (1 ER/16.1 IP). He last pitched on Wednesday at New Orleans (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 3 BF, 13 pitches/9 strikes).
 
Gonzalez took the loss in a start Thursday night against Minnesota, and he went 0-2 with an 8.71 ERA over 3 games/starts with Texas this season after being recalled from Round Rock on June 27. He began the year with the Express, posting a 3-6 record with a 5.04 ERA (45 ER/80.1 IP) in 14 games/starts.
 
The Rangers currently have 39 players on the club's major league roster.
 
MINOR LEAGUE TRADE: The Rangers made a minor league trade with Miami today, acquiring left-handed pitcher Eric Jokisch (pronounced YO-kish) from the Marlins in exchange for infielder Pedro Ciriaco.
 
The 26-year-old Jokisch was designated for assignment by Miami on Wednesday and cleared outright waivers today. He has been assigned to the Round Rock roster. He has combined to go 2-1 with a 3.92 ERA (17 ER/39.0 IP) over 20 games/2 starts with three different affiliates in the Cubs and Marlins systems in 2016, pitching for Iowa (Cubs AAA), New Orleans (Marlins AAA), and Jacksonville (Marlins AA). Jokisch was received by Miami from Chicago-NL in an April 13 waiver claim, and up to that point had spent his entire professional career in the Cubs system since being selected in the 11th round of the 2010 June draft out of Northwestern University. His only big league action came with Chicago-NL in 2014, posting a 1.88 ERA (3 ER/14.1 IP) over 4 games/one start.
 
Ciriaco was in major league spring training camp with Texas as a minor league invitee and has spent the season with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .268 with one home run and 18 RBI in 51 games.
