ARLINGTON -- The Rangers made a handful of roster moves prior to Saturday's game against the Astros.
Texas optioned outfielder Ryan Rua to Triple-A Round Rock and activated right-hander Tyson Ross, who had been on the disabled list since July 24 with a blister on his right index finger, to start on Saturday.
Rua was recalled from Round Rock on July 31, but didn't play during this stint with the Rangers.
The Rangers also acquired infielder Phil Gosselin off waivers from the Pirates. Gosselin, 28, was with Pittsburgh's Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis, where he posted a .266 batting average in 63 games this season. He was acquired by the Pirates from Arizona in February, but was unable to make his way up the Bucs' depth chart.

Despite owning a .272 average over 500 at-bats in his Major League career, with six homers and 33 RBIs, Gosselin only received 42 plate appearances in three stints with the Pirates in 2017. During those opportunities, Gosselin hit .150 with two RBIs in 28 games.
The Rangers also outrighted infielder Tyler Smith to Round Rock before the game. Smith was on the Rangers' active roster on Wednesday against the Mets, but did not appear in the game. He was originally acquired off of waivers from the Mariners on July 30.
With the moves, the Rangers' 40-man roster remains at 39 players.
